Southeast Manitoba has been getting some attention lately as being a “giving bunch”. This is due to a recent report released from Statistics Canada. It makes me proud to be part of a community that recognizes the value of charitable giving.
I’m a firm believer in supporting the community you’re a part of. Giving back to the community leads to multiple benefits. Even the more simple acts of benevolence — the ones we think of as “random acts of kindness” or “no big deal” — are incredibly important. Volunteering in all shapes and forms strengthens our communities, brings people together and provides us with valuable experience and insight. And selfishly, when I give my time and energy to others, I just feel better — about myself and my community.
I encourage everyone to discover the joys of giving back and see firsthand how it impacts your personal and professional life for the better. And at the risk of sounding like a dreamer… if we all just give back even a little bit, imagine what an awesome place this world could be and how much fulfillment we would have.
It’s a huge challenge, a big responsibility and a path I am proud to be on.
